Vocabulary Building Discussion

Today I tried the “Context Clues” strategy to expand my vocabulary. This method involves guessing the meaning of unfamiliar words by looking at how they're used in a sentence or paragraph. I chose this strategy because it helps build not just my vocabulary, but also reading comprehension skills.

I picked up a short article related to Python programming—since that’s part of my NPTEL prep—and whenever I found a tricky word, I tried to infer its meaning before checking the dictionary. One word I learned was “robust.” From the sentence, “The algorithm is robust against input errors,” I guessed it meant something strong or reliable—and I was right! Another was “iterate,” which I recognized as related to loops in Python, but now I understand it better in general English too.
