Here are the basics of a sentence:

1. Definition

A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. It must have:

  • A subject (who or what the sentence is about)

  • A predicate (what the subject does or is)


2. Parts of a Sentence

  • Subject: The person, place, thing, or idea doing the action.
    Example: "The dog barked."*

  • Predicate: The action or state of being.
    Example: "The dog barked."


3. Types of Sentences

There are four main types:
