In English grammar, the eight parts of speech are essential for building clear and meaningful sentences. A noun names a person, place, or thing, such as teacher or school. A pronoun like she or they is used in place of a noun to avoid repetition. A verb shows action or state, such as run or is. Adjectives describe nouns, like beautiful or tall, while adverbs describe verbs or adjectives, for example, quickly or very. Prepositions like in, on, or under show relationships between words in a sentence. Conjunctions, such as and or but, connect words or ideas. Finally, interjections express emotion and stand alone, like wow! or ouch!. Together, these parts of speech form the foundation of effective communication.
