What is SVOMPT?

SVOMPT helps you remember the correct order of words in English sentences.

Each letter stands for a part of the sentence:

- S is the subject – the person or thing doing the action.

- V is the verb – the action.

- O is the object – the thing the action is done to.

- M is manner – how or to whom the action is done.

- P is place – where the action happens.

- T is time – when the action happens.

 Example:

"The teacher explained the lesson to the students in the classroom yesterday."

Let’s break it into SVOMPT:

S: The teacher (Who is doing something?)

V: explained (What did she do?)

O: the lesson (What did she explain?)

M: to the students (How or to whom?)

P: in the classroom (Where?)

T: yesterday (When?)

Why it's important

In English, the word order matters a lot.

You can’t change the order like in some other languages.

For example, you can't say:What is SVOMPT?
