Today, I decided to try the vocabulary strategy of using context clues to understand the meaning of unfamiliar words while reading. I picked a short article from an English-language news website and highlighted any words I didn't recognize. Instead of immediately using a dictionary, I tried to guess the meaning of each word by looking at how it was used in the sentence and what words were around it.
This strategy worked well for me because it helped me stay focused on the flow of the text instead of stopping too often. After finishing the article, I checked the dictionary to confirm my guesses—and I was surprised that most of them were close or correct!
