Broadening one's reservoir of vocabulary is important for various reasons, one of them is the significance of using the right words in composing your sentences can affect the mood and tone of your sentences. So, it is important to have an extensive vocabulary. The following are the strategies I use to develop my vocabulary skills:
1. Setting a reading goal each day
A daily reading goal will help you have a direction and be consistent with it.
For instance, my reading goal for today is to read an article about ADHD, write the unfamiliar words found in that article, and make a summary of the what that article is about
2. Writing the unfamiliar words
Taking down notes of the unfamiliar words that I encountered during reading, helps me retain more.
Firstly, I wrote what my hypothetical meaning of that specific word and I search for it in a credible dictionary.
Then, I utilize those unfamiliar words in my own sentences.
3. Application
I use them in daily conversations or when I am writing in my journal or reflection.
4. Review
Spaced review and repetition help me recall those words better.
