My Vocabulary Strategy

Today I tried the “word map” strategy to build my vocabulary. First, I chose a new English word, wrote it in the center of my notebook, and then added its definition, part of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and an example sentence around it like a small diagram.

I used this strategy with the word “reliable.”

  • Definition: able to be trusted or depended on

  • Part of Speech: adjective

  • Synonyms: trustworthy, dependable

  • Antonym: unreliable

  • Example Sentence: “My best friend is very reliable; she always keeps her promises.”

I also learned the word “affordable” (adjective, meaning “not expensive”) using the same method.

This strategy worked for me because it helped me see the word, its meaning, and how to use it all at once. I think I will keep using it to expand my vocabulary.
