Parts of speech are the basic building blocks of English grammar. They show how words function in a sentence. They are mainly divided into eight types: Noun, Pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection. A Noun names a person, place, thing or idea. While a pronoun replaces a noun to avoid repetition. A verb shows action or a state of being, and an adjective describes a noun or pronoun. An adverb modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb, often showing how, when, or where something happens. A Preposition links nouns or pronouns to other words, and a conjunction connects words or groups of words. Finally, an interjection expresses sudden feelings or emotions.
