1. Noun (The Namers)

 Function: Names a person, place, thing, or idea.

 Memory Hook: If you can put "the" in front of it (like "the dog" or "the freedom"), it's probably a noun.

  Examples: Justice, Mr. Smith, mountain.

2. Pronoun (The Substitutes)

  Function: Replaces a noun to avoid repetition.

 Memory Hook: They're stand-ins for proper names.

  Examples: He, she, it, they, mine.

3. Verb (The Engines)

 Function: Expresses action (physical or mental) or a state of being.

 Memory Hook: It's what the subject does or is.

  Examples: Run, think, is, become.

4. Adjective (The Describers)

  Function: Modifies (describes) a noun or pronoun.

  Memory Hook: Answers questions like "Which one?" "What kind?" or "How many?"

  Examples: Green shirt, fast car, two apples.

5. Adverb (The Qualifiers)

  Function: Modifies (describes) a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

  Memory Hook: Often ends in -ly and answers "How?" "When?" "Where?" or "To what extent?"

  Examples: Ran quickly, very tall, finished yesterday.

6. Preposition (The Relators)

  Function: Shows the relationship between a noun/pronoun and another word, usually indicating location, time, or direction.

 Memory Hook: Anything a plane can do to a cloud (fly above, through, around, below).

  Examples: In the box, before noon, jumped over the fence.

7. Conjunction (The Connectors)

 Function: Joins words, phrases, or clauses.

  Memory Hook: The "FANBOYS" (For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So).

 Examples: Apples and oranges, tired but happy.

8. Interjection (The Exclaimers)

 Function: Expresses sudden emotion and is grammatically independent of the rest of the sentence.

 Memory Hook: Always stands alone, usually with an exclamation point or comma.

  Examples: Wow!, Ouch!, Oh, I see.
