There are eight parts of speech, each with distinct functions in a sentence. They are ;
1) Noun - This is the name of a person, place animal or thing. Examples are, Teacher, Goat , e.t.c.
2) Pronoun - It replaces a noun in a sentence. It prevents the repetition of a noun. Examples are, he, she, they e.t.c.
3) Verb - This is an action or a state of an object. Examples are, cooking, running e.t.c.
4) Adjective - This describes or qualifies a noun. Examples are, fast, beautiful e.t.c.
5) Adverb - This describes or qualifies a verb or an adjective. Examples are, happily, merrily e.t.c.
6) Preposition - This shows the relationship between objects. Examples are, on , beside e.t.c.
7) Conjunction - This links two groups of words, i.e phrases, or sentences. Examples are, and, but e.t.c.
8) Interjection - It is the expression of emotion or feeling in writing. Examples include, oh! , Ah! e.t.c.
Articles are words which are not usually included in parts of speech but play important roles in a sentence. They include, a, an, the. They usually come before a noun.
