Today, I tried the context clues strategy to learn new vocabulary. I read a short article and tried to guess the meaning of unfamiliar words by looking at the sentences around them. It worked really well for me! I learned the words “innovative,” “sustainable,” and “collaborate.” I was able to understand their meanings without looking them up in a dictionary. I think using context clues will help me remember new words better in the future.
Sentence Patterns and Types Used:
Simple sentences – “It worked really well for me!”
Compound sentences – “I read a short article and tried to guess the meaning of unfamiliar words by looking at the sentences around them.”
Complex sentences – “I was able to understand their meanings without looking them up in a dictionary.”
Declarative sentences – Most sentences share information about my strategy and experience.
Exclamatory sentence – “It worked really well for me!” (expresses excitement)
