There are 8 parts of Speech which form the basics of Standard American English. They are:
1. Noun: names a person, place, thing or an idea. E.g. Thomas, Niger, puppet, experience etc
2. Pronouns: replaces or take the place of a noun in a sentence. E.g. them, she, her, it, him
3. Adjectives: describes a noun or pronoun. E.g intelligent, cheap, sacred, pretty
4. Verbs: describes an action or a state and conditions. E.g. care, fear, dance, rejoice, reject
5. Adverbs: describes a verb, adjectives and another adverb. E.g. slowly, swiftly, very, always
6. Prepositions: shows the relationship between words and place, time, etc. E.g. on, under, behind, above
7. Conjunction: connect words, phrases and clauses. E.g. although, although, and, because
8. Interjection: used to tell emotions or surprise. E.g Ha, Ouch!, Hurray, oops
