For this activity, I tried the context clues strategy to build my vocabulary. While reading a short article, I focused on unfamiliar words and used the surrounding sentences to understand their meaning instead of immediately checking a dictionary. This strategy worked well for me because it helped me understand the text without breaking my reading flow.
One new word I learned was “inevitable.” Based on the context, I understood that it means something that is certain to happen. Another word was “significant,” which I learned refers to something important or meaningful. After guessing their meanings, I checked a dictionary to confirm my understanding.
Using context clues helped me become more confident when reading and encouraged me to rely on my comprehension skills. I plan to continue using this strategy when I encounter new words in my readings.
