Going through the Parts of Speech materials, I came across a couple of sentences that really helped clarify things for me:
Sentence 1: "The curious cat silently crept across the wooden floor."
Breaking it down:
- The - article
- curious, wooden - adjectives (describing words)
- cat, floor - nouns
- silently - adverb (I always mix these up with adjectives, but this helped me see it modifies the verb "crept")
- crept - verb
- across - preposition
Sentence 2: "Oh! They rapidly finished their homework because the movie started soon."
- Oh - interjection
- They - pronoun
- rapidly - adverb
- finished, started - verbs
- their - possessive adjective
- homework, movie - nouns
- because - conjunction
- the - article
- soon - adverb
