Today, I decided to try the context clues strategy to build my vocabulary. This means I looked at unfamiliar words and tried to understand their meanings based on the sentences around them instead of immediately using a dictionary.

I applied this strategy while reading an article online. Whenever I encountered a new word, I paused and carefully examined the surrounding words and ideas. For example, I came across the word “meticulous.” From the context, I noticed it described someone who pays close attention to details. Based on that, I understood that meticulous means being very careful and precise. Later, I confirmed this with a dictionary, and my guess was correct.

This strategy worked well for me because it helped me think more deeply about what I was reading instead of just relying on definitions. It also made the learning process more engaging and memorable. Aside from meticulous, I also learned words like “reluctant” (meaning unwilling or hesitant) and “innovative” (meaning introducing new ideas or methods).

Overall, using context clues was effective in improving my vocabulary. I plan to keep practicing this strategy because it not only helps me learn new words but also improves my reading comprehension.
