Vocabulary building Discussion

The vocabulary strategy I tried today is using context clues from sentences and paragraphs to figure out the meaning of new words. I was reading an article about sustainable farming and came across words I didn’t know: "agroecology", "composting", and "biodiversity".

Instead of looking them up right away, I read the sentences around each word. For example, the article said, "Agroecology combines ecological principles with farming practices to protect soil health" – from this, I guessed it’s a method of farming that works with nature. Later, I checked a dictionary and found my guess was close! I also learned "composting" is the process of turning plant waste into fertilizer, and "biodiversity" means having many different types of plants and animals in one area.

This strategy worked well for me because it helped me remember the words better by connecting them to ideas I already understood. I didn’t have to stop reading to look up every new term, which made the process smoother.
