I read about astronomy (a new hobby for me) and jotted down unfamiliar words in a notebook: cosmology, pulsar, dark matter, and luminosity. I looked up their definitions and practiced using them in sentences like "Learning about cosmology has opened my eyes to how much we still don’t know about space." The strategy worked well; focusing on a topic I’m curious about made the words easier to remember. Have you tried a similar approach?
