Strategy I tried: I chose using context clues to figure out the meaning of new words while reading.
What I did: As I read the text about First Nations languages, I looked for hints around words I didn’t know. For example, I didn’t know the word “ancestors”, but the sentence explained that they are “people in our families who were alive before us,” which helped me understand it.
Did it work? Yes, it helped me understand new words without looking them up.
New words I learned: ancestors, preserve, at risk, aboriginal
Reflection: Using context clues made it easier to learn vocabulary while still reading smoothly. I think I will keep using this strategy with other texts.
