Today, I decided to try the context clues strategy to improve my vocabulary. This strategy involves using the surrounding words and sentences to understand the meaning of unfamiliar words instead of immediately checking a dictionary.

While reading a passage, I came across the word “habitat.” By looking at the sentence, which talked about animals living in a particular environment, I was able to understand that habitat means the natural home of an organism. I also encountered the word “adapt,” and from the context, I learned it means to adjust or change in order to survive in a new environment.

This strategy worked well for me because it helped me think more deeply about the text and improved my understanding without interrupting my reading too much. It also made learning new words more interesting and easier to remember.

Overall, I found the context clues strategy very effective and I plan to keep using it to build my vocabulary.
