Hi class!

It is great to meet all of you. I live in Chicago. I write code for a software company. I really enjoy playing tennis in the summer, but I strongly dislike shoveling snow in the winter! Whenever I have free time, I practice the guitar quietly in my room.

Here is the breakdown of the sentence types and patterns I used in my introduction:

  • "I live in Chicago."

    • Sentence Type: Simple sentence

    • Sentence Pattern: Subject (I) + Verb (live) + Place (in Chicago).

  • "I write code for a software company."

    • Sentence Type: Simple sentence

    • Sentence Pattern: Subject (I) + Verb (write) + Object (code) + Prepositional Phrase (for a software company).

  • "I really enjoy playing tennis in the summer, but I strongly dislike shoveling snow in the winter!"

    • Sentence Type: Compound sentence (two independent clauses joined by the conjunction "but").

    • Sentence Pattern: [Subject (I) + Verb (enjoy) + Object (playing tennis) + Time (in the summer)] + but + [Subject (I) + Verb (dislike) + Object (shoveling snow) + Time (in the winter)].

  • "Whenever I have free time, I practice the guitar quietly in my room."

    • Sentence Type: Complex sentence (a dependent clause followed by an independent clause).

    • Sentence Pattern: Dependent time clause + [Subject (I) + Verb (practice) + Object (the guitar) + Manner (quietly) + Place (in my room)].
