For today, I decided to try the strategy of *context clues* to build my vocabulary. The idea behind this strategy is to infer the meaning of unfamiliar words by looking at the surrounding words and sentences.
As I was reading an article, I came across the word "elaborate." I wasn't entirely sure of its meaning, so I looked at the rest of the sentence and the paragraph. The sentence was: *"She gave an elaborate explanation about the scientific experiment, including all the details and processes."*
From this, I inferred that "elaborate" likely means to explain something in detail. This context helped me understand the word even before I looked it up. When I finally checked the dictionary, my guess was correct! "Elaborate" means to provide more details or explanations. This strategy definitely worked for me because it allowed me to understand the meaning of the word without stopping my reading flow too much. I also learned the word "elaborate" today, which will help me express myself better when I want to describe detailed explanations.
I would recommend using context clues when reading, especially when encountering unfamiliar words, as it not only helps with understanding but also aids in expanding vocabulary without having to constantly refer to a dictionary.
