Capacitors
Although you will typically see capacitors illustrated as two parallel plates arranged like a sandwich, many realistic capacitor designs look nothing like that. All capacitors have two conducting sheets and two-wire terminals that connect to those sheets. But the internal geometry of the sheets can be quite intricate – for example, arranged like stacked cups or rolled-up tape.
