Hello everyone!
Today, I decided to try the context clues strategy to improve my vocabulary. This strategy involves figuring out the meaning of new words by looking at the words and sentences around them.
I came across the word “meticulous” in an article. The sentence was: “She was meticulous about organizing her files, making sure everything was in its proper place.” From the context, I guessed that “meticulous” means very careful and detailed, and I confirmed my guess by looking it up in the dictionary.
I also learned the word “resilient”, which was used in the sentence: “Despite many challenges, he remained resilient and kept moving forward.” The sentence helped me understand that “resilient” means able to recover from difficulties.
This strategy worked well for me because it helped me understand new words without immediately using a dictionary. I plan to keep using it to build my vocabulary.
What vocabulary strategies do you use? Have you tried context clues before?
