Parts of Speech are the basic categories of words based on their function in a sentence. Here are the 8 main parts:


  1. Noun – names a person, place, thing, or idea 
  2. Pronoun – replaces a noun 
  3. Verb - shows action or state
  4. Adjective – describes a noun
  5. Adverb – modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb
  6. Preposition – shows relation
  7. Conjunction – connects words or clauses 
  8. Interjection – expresses emotion

Here are sample sentences for each part of speech, clearly labeled:

  1. Noun:
    The cat slept on the couch.
  2. Pronoun:
    She loves reading books.
  3. Verb:
    They run every morning.
  4. Adjective:
    He wore a red shirt.
  5. Adverb:
    She sings beautifully.
  6. Preposition:
    The book is under the table.
  7. Conjunction:
    I want tea, but I’ll drink coffee.
  8. Interjection:
    Oops! I dropped the glass.
