Parts of speech are the basic categories of words based on their function in a sentence. There are eight traditional parts of speech in English:
Noun – Names a person, place, thing, or idea.
Example: cat, London, happinessPronoun – Replaces a noun.
Example: he, she, it, theyVerb – Expresses an action or state of being.
Example: run, is, thinkAdjective – Describes or modifies a noun or pronoun.
Example: blue, fast, happyAdverb – Describes or modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb.
Example: quickly, very, wellPreposition – Shows a relationship between a noun (or pronoun) and another word in the sentence.
Example: in, on, at, byConjunction – Connects words, phrases, or clauses.
Example: and, but, becauseInterjection – Expresses strong emotion or surprise.
Example: wow! oh! ouch!
