A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. Every sentence must have two main parts:

  1. Subject – who or what the sentence is about

  2. Predicate – what the subject does or is (includes a verb)

Example:

The dog (subject) barked loudly (predicate).

Types of Sentences by Structure:

  • Simple: One complete idea (e.g., She runs fast.)

  • Compound: Two ideas joined by a conjunction (e.g., She runs fast, and he walks slowly.)

  • Complex: One main idea and one dependent clause (e.g., She runs when it rains.)

A complete sentence must make sense on its own, unlike fragments or run-ons.
