Basic Components of a Sentence

1. Subject – The person, place, thing, or idea doing the action or being described.

2. Verb – The action or state of being.

3. Object (optional) – Receives the action of the verb.

4. Complement – Adds more detail to the subject or object.

5. Modifiers – Words that describe or limit other elements in the sentence.

Types of Sentences

1. Declarative – Makes a statement.
   She loves reading.

2. Interrogative – Asks a question.
   Do you like pizza?

3. Imperative – Gives a command or request.
   Close the door.

4. Exclamatory – Expresses strong emotion.
   What a beautiful sunset!
