Vocabulary Building Strategy: Using Flashcards with Context Sentences

Today, I tried using digital flashcards with context sentences to improve my vocabulary. I created flashcards using a free app where each card had a new word on one side and a sentence using the word on the other. I also added the definition and part of speech to reinforce my learning.

This strategy really worked for me because reading the word in a sentence helped me understand how it’s actually used. It also made the words more memorable. I reviewed the cards a few times during the day, which helped with repetition and retention.

New Words I Learned:

  • Mitigate (verb): to make something less severe
Example: The government took steps to mitigate the effects of inflation.

  • Diligent (adjective): showing care in doing one's work
Example: She is a diligent student who always finishes her homework on time.

  • Adversity (noun): a difficult or unpleasant situation
Example: He remained strong in the face of adversity.

I plan to continue using this method daily to expand my vocabulary, especially for academic and professional settings. I recommend this strategy to anyone who prefers learning through both definitions and real examples.
