There are eight main parts of speech in English:

Noun – names a person, place, thing, or idea
Examples: teacher, Manila, book, freedom -
Pronoun – takes the place of a noun
Examples: he, she, it, they, you -
Verb – expresses action or a state of being
Examples: run, jump, is, seem -
Adjective – describes or modifies a noun or pronoun
Examples: happy, tall, blue, expensive -
Adverb – describes or modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb
Examples: quickly, very, silently, well -
Preposition – shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun to another word
Examples: in, on, at, between, over -
Conjunction – connects words, phrases, or clauses
Examples: and, but, or, because, although -
Interjection – expresses emotion or sudden feeling
Examples: wow! oh! ouch! hey!
