The strategy I use most of the time is to read voraciously in the field that interests me. I read audio books so while I am reading I am also listening to the correct pronunciation of the word. I can guess the meaning from the context. If not, I check it in a dictionary and record it in my vocabulary log. The next day, I teach it to one of my colleagues.
