Learning about vocabulary-building strategies was quite interesting and inspiring. I tried most of them and I'm excited to share my experience:
1. Recently, I have been reading voraciously, and it has helped me in various ways. Most importantly, I don't need to stop to pick up my dictionary now and then. However, I have noticed that despite being able to make sense of new words through context clues, I can hardly remember them later.
2. I tried to look up every new word in the dictionary and read all the details about it. I even noted them down in a notebook. But I was probably overenthusiastic and noted a little too many of them to remember and recall. As a result, I got bored very quickly.
3-4-5. "Use it or lose it" was the best advice. It really worked for me in combination with the next two. I just had to control and curtail my enthusiasm because it was difficult to handle too many words. "One word a day" was the best option, and it worked wonderfully with "Understanding the true meaning of the word."
6. I tried to maintain a personal lexicon, but somehow, couldn't reap much benefit from it.
7. I find it important to develop a good discipline and follow a process, even though I have not been able to do it yet.
8. Word games sound pretty interesting, but I'm yet to get access to them.
9. I have tried to leverage every resource in my reach, and it has only distracted me. I find it better to keep my enthusiasm in check and progress in measure.
10. Diversification is another crucial factor, as the mind develops boredom very easily. By directing the mind to a different domain in between, it becomes easy to bring its interest and energy back.
Overall, it was a useful discussion, and I am committed to working on it meticulously.
