In the parts of speech lesson, I found these sentences very useful:
" A noun names a person , place , thing or idea."
"An adjective describes or modifies a noun."
"Verbs show action or a state of being."
From these , I noted the following examples of parts of speech:
Noun: person,place, thing, idea
Adjective: describes , modifies
Verbs: show , being
