 Sentence Structures

1. Simple Sentence

A simple sentence has one independent clause. It has a subject and a verb and expresses a complete thought.

 Example: I play football.

2. Compound Sentence

A compound sentence has two or more independent clauses. These clauses are joined by a coordinating conjunction (and, but, or, so, yet, for, nor) or a semicolon.

Example: I play football, and my friend plays cricket.

3. Complex Sentence

A complex sentence has one independent clause and one or more dependent clauses. The dependent clause cannot stand alone and is usually joined with subordinating words (because, although, if, when, since, etc.).

Example: I stayed home because it was raining.
