Adjective – Gives more detail about a noun or pronoun. Examples: smart, cute, angry, happy


Verb – Expresses an action or a state of being. Examples: run, sing, walk, talk, think, eat


Adverb – Modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. Examples: happily, sadly, well


Preposition – Shows the relationship of place, time, direction, or position between words. Examples: on, under, above, at, in, to


Conjunction – Links words, phrases, or clauses. Examples: and, so, but, because


Interjection – Expresses feelings or sudden emotion. Examples: alas, oh no, oops
