Vocabulary Strategy Reflection

Today I tried the keyword strategy to build my vocabulary. This strategy involves linking a new word to something I already know—either through a similar-sounding word or a mental image that helps me remember the meaning.

For example, I came across the word “meticulous” (meaning very careful and paying close attention to detail). I linked it with the word “measure” because someone who is meticulous measures or checks everything carefully. This connection helped me recall the meaning without looking it up again.

I also learned “benevolent” (meaning kind and generous). I created a mental image of a “benevolent benefactor” handing out gifts, which made the meaning stick.

This strategy worked well for me because it made vocabulary learning more creative and personal. Instead of just memorizing definitions, I created connections that were easy to remember.

New words I learned today:

  • Meticulous = very careful, detail-oriented
  • Benevolent = kind and generous

I will continue using this method because it turns new words into memorable images and links.
