Vocabulary Strategy

Today, I decided to try the “context clues” strategy to build my vocabulary. While reading an article online, I focused on unfamiliar words and tried to understand their meaning from the surrounding sentences before checking the dictionary.

For example, I came across the word “meticulous.” The sentence described someone paying very close attention to detail, so I guessed it meant “careful and precise.” When I checked the dictionary, my guess was correct! I also learned the word “versatile,” which means being able to do many different things.

This strategy worked well for me because it helped me stay engaged with the text while also practicing critical thinking. Instead of stopping every time to look up a word, I challenged myself to figure it out first.
