Declarative sentence: Makes a statement or expresses a fact or opinion and ends with a period. 

Example: The sky is blue. 

Interrogative sentence: Asks a question and ends with a question mark. 

Example: What time is it? 

Imperative sentence: Gives a command or makes a request and can end with a period or an exclamation mark. 

Example: Please pass the salt. or Stop! 

Exclamatory sentence: Expresses strong emotion or excitement and ends with an exclamation mark. 

Example: What a beautiful day! 

Sentence types by structure:

These sentences are classified based on their clauses. 

Simple sentence: Contains one independent clause. 

Example: The dog barked loudly. 

Compound sentence: Contains two or more independent clauses joined by a conjunction. 

Example: The dog barked loudly, and the cat ran away. 

Complex sentence: Contains one independent clause and at least one subordinate clause. 

Example: Because the dog barked, the cat ran away. 

Compound-complex sentence: Contains two or more independent clauses and at least one subordinate clause. 

Example: Because the dog barked, the cat ran away, and the bird flew off.
