While reviewing the Parts of Speech resources, I found a few sentences that stood out to me because they clearly showed how words can change meaning depending on their function in a sentence.

Example Sentences:

  1. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
  2. She runs quickly to catch the bus.
  3. Happiness is the key to success.

Parts of Speech Examples:

  • The — Article (determiner)
  • quick, brown, lazy — Adjectives (describe nouns)
  • fox, dog, bus, happiness, key, success — Nouns (names of people, places, things, or ideas)
  • jumps, runs — Verbs (show action)
  • over, to — Prepositions (show relationship between words)
  • quickly — Adverb (modifies a verb, tells how she runs)
  • is — Linking verb (connects the subject with its complement)
