My vocabulary strategy: Contextual learning

For my vocabulary strategy, I chose contextual learning, which involves learning new words as I encounter them in my regular reading, rather than from isolated lists. The idea is to understand and remember words more effectively by seeing how they function in real sentences and paragraphs.

New words I learned

Here are three new words I encountered using this method:
  • Insidious: The sentence was, "The insidious spread of misinformation poses a serious threat to a healthy democracy." It refers to something that is slowly and subtly harmful.
  • Salient: I read, "The most salient point of the argument was its emphasis on data-driven conclusions." This means the most prominent or important aspect.
  • Pervasive: The phrase "a pervasive sense of anxiety" was used to describe a feeling present throughout a given situation.
