Today, I choose to see what happens with the context-based word learning method. As I read, I concentrated on the book I was reading and searched for new terms. Every time I encountered a word I was unfamiliar with, I took a moment to try to understand it from the surrounding text. For instance, the word "meticulous" came up. For example, "She was meticulous in organizing her files, ensuring that every document was in the right order."
I searched up the definition of meticulous in a dictionary after reading that statement because I assumed it would mean "careful or thorough." The definition of meticulous, it turned out, is "showing great attention to detail; very careful and precise."
I found this tactic to be effective. When I looked up the word in the dictionary, it not only helped me guess its meaning but also confirmed what I already knew about it. Additionally, I picked up a new word that I can now use in my own writing and conversations: scrupulous.
I'm going to continue reading using this approach. It lets me expand my vocabulary without becoming bogged down by new terms. Rather, it makes learning a more dynamic process!
