Vocabulary strategy

Today I tried the vocabulary strategy of using context clues to figure out the meaning of new words instead of immediately looking them up. When I came across unfamiliar words in an article—like “meticulous” and “subtlety”—I looked at the sentences around them to guess what they meant. For example, the sentence described someone being “meticulous about keeping their workspace organized,” so I guessed it meant “very careful” or “detail-oriented.” When I checked later, my guess was pretty close.

This strategy actually worked well for me because it helped me stay focused on the reading instead of stopping to search every word. I also feel like I remember the words better when I figure them out myself.

The new words I learned were meticulous, subtlety, and inevitable. Overall, using context clues helped me understand the reading more easily, and I think I’ll keep using this strategy to build my vocabulary.
