Phrase is a group of words with meaning. It has no subject or verb.
Noun Phrase. Acts like a noun.
Example: a red ball.
Verb Phrase. Has the verb and helping verb.
Example: is playing.
Clauses
Clause
A group of words with subject and verb.
It may be complete or not.
Independent Clause
Makes sense alone.
Example: I am running.
Dependent Clause
Needs another clause.
Example: because I am late.
