=>Parts of a Sentence

->Subject: Who or what the sentence is about. It does the action.

->Predicate: Tells what the subject does. It has the verb.

->Object: Receives the action. It comes after the verb.

=>Common Sentence Patterns

=>Subject + Verb (S + V)->Only the subject and action.

Example: Birds fly.

=>Subject + Verb + Object (S + V + O)

The subject acts on something.

Example: She eats food.

=>Subject + Verb + Complement (S + V + C)

The complement tells more about the subject.

Example: He is happy.

=>Phrases

Phrase is a group of words with meaning. It has no subject or verb.

Noun Phrase. Acts like a noun.

Example: a red ball.

Verb Phrase. Has the verb and helping verb.

Example: is playing.

Clauses

Clause

A group of words with subject and verb.

It may be complete or not.

Independent Clause

Makes sense alone.

Example: I am running.

Dependent Clause

Needs another clause.

Example: because I am late.
