While studying the parts of speech, I encountered several sentences which helped me identify the grammatical roles played by individual words and also how these words connect with each other to make meaning. Below,I share four of these sentences and the various parts of speech found in them.

1. I have many dogs in my neighborhood.

  • ( I, my) = pronouns
  • ( have) = verb 
  • (dogs, neighborhood) = nouns 
  • ( in ) = preposition 
  • (many) = adjective 
2. They walk fast

  • (They) = pronoun
  • (walk) = verb
  • (fast) = adverb
3. Robert lives and teaches in California.

  • ( Robert, California) = Nouns 
  • (lives, teaches) = verbs
  • (and) = conjunction 
  • (in) = preposition 
4. Wow! That is great news.

  • (wow!) = interjection 
  • (That) = pronoun
  • (is) = verb
  • (great) = adjective 
  • (news) = noun
