1️⃣ Sentence Types by Purpose

🔹 1. Declarative Sentence

  • Makes a statement

  • Ends with a period (.)

Example:
She is studying English.


🔹 2. Interrogative Sentence

  • Asks a question

  • Ends with a question mark (?)

Example:
Are you ready?


🔹 3. Imperative Sentence

  • Gives a command, request, or advice

  • The subject is usually hidden (“you”)

  • Ends with a period or exclamation mark

Example:
Close the door.
Please sit down.


🔹 4. Exclamatory Sentence

  • Shows strong emotion

  • Ends with an exclamation mark (!)

Example:
What a beautiful day!


2️⃣ Sentence Types by Structure

🔹 1. Simple Sentence

  • One independent clause
    Example:
    She works hard.


🔹 2. Compound Sentence

  • Two independent clauses joined by a conjunction (and, but, so, etc.)
    Example:
    She works hard, and she studies at night.


🔹 3. Complex Sentence

  • One independent clause + one or more dependent clauses
    Example:
    She studies because she has an exam.


🔹 4. Compound-Complex Sentence

  • Two independent clauses + at least one dependent clause
    Example:
    She studies hard because she has an exam, and she wants to succeed.
