A verb is a word that shows action or a state of being.

1. Verbs show action

These tell what someone or something does.
Examples: run, jump, eat, write, think

  • She runs every morning.

  • They play soccer.

2. Verbs show being (state of being)

These tell what someone or something is.
Examples: is, am, are, was, were

  • He is happy.

  • They are tired.

Why is the verb the best?

Because you cannot make a complete sentence without a verb.

❌ The dog in the yard. (Not a complete sentence)
✅ The dog barked in the yard. (Complete sentence)

The verb gives the sentence life. It tells us what is happening or what exists.

So, the verb is often considered the most important part of speech because it makes a sentence complete and meaningful.
