Parts of speech are types of words.
They help us make sentences.
Every word in English has a job.
There are 9 main parts of speech.
1. Noun
A noun is a name of a person, place, thing, or idea.
Example: cat, school, teacher
Sentence: The cat is small.
2. Pronoun
A pronoun takes the place of a noun.
Example: he, she, it, they
Sentence: Nimal is my friend. He is kind.
3. Adjective
An adjective describes a noun.
Example: big, beautiful, red
Sentence: She has a red dress.
4. Verb
A verb shows an action or state.
Example: run, eat, is
Sentence: I eat rice.
5. Adverb
An adverb describes a verb.
Example: quickly, slowly
Sentence: She runs quickly.
6. Preposition
A preposition shows place or time.
Example: in, on, at
Sentence: The book is on the table.
7. Conjunction
A conjunction joins words or sentences.
Example: and, but, because
Sentence: I like tea and coffee.
8. Interjection
An interjection shows feeling.
Example: Wow! Oh!
Sentence: Wow! It is nice.
9. Article
Articles come before nouns.
Example: a, an, the
