I learnt that there are 8 parts of speech including: noun, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions and interjection. Each of the parts of speech has its own function in sentences. In the sentence "Mary sings well", "Mary" is a noun, "sings" is a verb and "well" is an adverb.
