I learned that parts of speech are important because each word has a different function in a sentence. Nouns name people, places, or things, while verbs show actions. Adjectives describe nouns, and adverbs describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. I also learned that sometimes the same word can have a different role depending on the sentence.
Example:
Sentence: “The same word can sometimes act differently depending on the sentence.”
- The = Article
- same = Adjective
- word = Noun
- can = Helping Verb
- sometimes = Adverb
- act = Verb
- differently = Adverb
- depending = Verb
- on = Preposition
- sentence = Noun
