Today I tried a vocabulary strategy called learning words through context clues. In this strategy, I read sentences and tried to guess the meaning of new words based on the surrounding words instead of immediately using a dictionary.

For example, I came across the sentence: “He was exhausted after running for two hours.” From the context, I understood that “exhausted” means very tired.

Another word I learned was “generous” from the sentence: “She is generous and always helps others.” I understood that it means kind and willing to give or help.

This strategy worked well for me because it helped me think more and understand words naturally. After guessing, I checked the meanings in a dictionary to make sure I was correct.

New Words I Learned:

Exhausted – very tired

Generous – kind and giving

Confident – feeling sure about something

I think this is a useful strategy because it improves both reading and vocabulary at the same time. I will continue using it to learn more new words.

Which vocabulary strategy did you try today?
